Avid takes 3 Titles at the RC Pro Texas State Championships

Oct 12 2011

Congrats to Jason Branham (Open Truggy), Jake Dillenger (E-Buggy), and Brian Henn (Pro4) for becoming the RCP Texas State Champs for Avid RC.  We didn't take Open Buggy but 2nd-8th were all Avid's, so close!  Notable mention goes to Issac Price for taking 3rd in both E-Buggy and Pro4 and who can forget the formidable Mark Morrow for taking 3rd in Open Truggy.

Finals write up by David Joor:

The RCPro Texas State Finals were hosted this weekend in Alvin Texas at Ultimate RC.  The track was one of the best track I had seen all year.  The clay surface gave you a little bit of everything with high grip 4 foot lines, high speed bumps, jumps had spots that would mess the car up while still having completely smooth parts as well, and dust/rubble on the edges.  Look forward to more races at this venue.

Unfortunately the race got rained out but we were able to get two rounds in.  First round I ran AKA Soft I-Beams and they were great on the track but lap times were slower because the grip was coming up.  In the second round I went to the AKA Soft Impacts and went from the Associated 8.2 kit pistons to the 1.3x8 pistons because there were some high speed sharp bumps and needed less pack.  This proved to be the right ticket.  In nitro had a horrible start having to be corner marshaled twice on the first lap but put my head down and set the fastest consecutive lap times of the event and was 2 seconds shy of the fastest time set by Battiele giving me 2nd overall.  In electric I took the round by a mere second but that was all it took to take the tq/win due to the rain out.
