The Avid 13mm Precision Front Springs (13dot | 5.05lb | Batch 2) are specifically designed for carpet racing by having stiffer rates and shorter lengths (so you can get to your low ride heights easily). The springs are left raw so the spring rate and action of the spring is not compromised from any extra chemical processes, just like our truly famous springs that we released in 2013!
Features
- Engineered for carpet racing, Avid springs feature higher spring rates and shortened lengths: 40mm front, 56mm rear, allowing ultra-low ride heights.
- Front springs are intentionally short and can't be accurately tested at 1" compression due to coil bind. Modern cars run under 23mm stroke in the front, which aligns with our design to push the spring right to very edge but not go over it.
- Each batch is measured for the average spring rate (lb/in) after passing in-house testing using a precision $3k Chatillon digital spring rate tester.
- Made from raw, uncoated ASTM-spec spring wire for consistency and factory-like polish potential.
- Laser etched with black markings for Batch 2 on the side above where the wire ends: large dash = 5 dots, small dash = 1 dot.
Tips and Recommended Starting Points
- For Batch 2 we have added the stiffer 13 fronts and 11 rears which we haven't even gotten to test. On high bite we are at the top of the range with 11/9's and felt like going stiffer would be even better. This could also provide the stability trucks and 4wd rears. Good luck testing!!!
- Having trouble hitting the right ride height—either too low or too high? You can always adjust spring tension by swapping out your spring cups for different lengths. A common misconception is that changing the spring cup height affects spring rate, but it doesn't. For example, if you're running the B7 0mm spring cup up front and trying to achieve a 13mm ride height with our springs, you'll probably find your spring collars sitting almost all the way down on the shock body. Switching them to the 5mm spring cup will move your spring collars back up closer to the top, giving you more adjustment range without altering the spring's performance.
- Xray XB2 and XB4 owners running the new 13.2mm shocks can run our springs if you purchase the AE 13mm spring cups (ASC91966).
